The eventual solution was to mount the Parallels Tools ISO disk image (found in MacHD:/Library/Parallels/Tools) to the Windows D:/ drive, then when "Found New Hardware" popped up, tell the wizard to search the D:/ drive for the driver. I reinstalled Parallels Tools several times, both from within Windows and from the Parallels Desktop menus, with no success. The result was that I could not use Coherence mode or the dynamic resize in single Window mode, the display was stuck at the resolution defined by Windows and if tried to resize the window I just got scroll bars appearing. However, when starting-up Windows I kept getting the "Found New Hardware" wizard popping up with found "Parallels Display Adapter" and there was a yellow exclamation mark showing against video adapter in Windows Device Manager. On the whole it ran smoothly, upgrading the 2 VMs I had without any problem, with no need to reactivate Windows. I also wanted to upgrade from Tiger 10.4.11 to Snow Leopard, and Parallels 3.0 to 4.0 (running XP SP2). Btw, I agree with you about the Parallels forum! I posted on there a couple of days ago and still no response and eventually solved the issue myself. I had a very similar problem so thought I would post my experience for the benefit of other users searching this thread. Gern geschehen, ich hoffe es hilft Dir weiter. That way I can avoid using the Migration Assistant (no specific reason why, just wat I would do). Me, myself and I (so all three of me.) would do as follows:ġ) clone the Leopard OSx onto an external harddiskĢ) boot from that 'external' clone and use Disk Utility fom it to repartition (GUID) the internal HDģ) clone Leopard OSX back from the external HD to the internal HDĤ) Install Snow Leopard as update onto the internal HD I guess I must now do the following: 1) clone the hard drive 2) use Disk Utility on the SL installation disk to repartition the hard drive 3) install Snow Leopard 4) use Migration Assistant to get all my programs and data back from the cloned drive. Yep, good idea to have a backup, preferably a bootable clone (with SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner). So I'm going to have to clone my hard drive (which I would do anyway, or at least back it up), and then run the SL installation. NOW, however, I can't upgrade to Snow Leopard because my hard drive is partitioned in APM, not GUID. I understand that Parallels 2.5 will not work, and that if I wish to keep Parallels, I'll have to upgrade to Parallels 4.ġ) What happens to my copy of Windows in the Parallels upgrade process? Do I have to reinstall it from the beginning, and would I have to contact Microsoft to get a new activation key (or whatever they call it) to make that happen?Ģ) In y'all's opinions, should I upgrade to Parallels 4 at all, or should I switch to VM Fusion 2.0.5? If I choose to do the latter, would I not still have to contact Microsoft to get a new activation key?ģ) Whichever route I choose, should I upgrade or change my virtualization software first, and then install Snow Leopard, or should I do the SL upgrade and deal with the new virtualization software afterwards? I run Windows XP on my MacBook, using Parallels 2.5. I presently have Tiger (10.4.11) on my MacBook (Sept.
